MAWFA: Supporting parents and carers to support their children following domestic abuse (York & North Yorkshire Workers)

November 25 | 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

This workshop will cover  how to support parents and carers to support their children following domestic abuse.

The workshop is part of the IDAS City of York and North Yorkshire Commissioned Children & Young People’s Service.

By the end of the workshop participants should:

  • Have an understanding of how domestic abuse impacts parenting
  • Have an understanding of how domestic abuse impacts family dynamics and relationships
  • Be able to support parents and carers with strategies and tools

The IDAS Multi-agency, whole family approach to working with children and young people impacted by domestic abuse has been commissioned by the Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner as part of coordinated commissioning arrangements with North Yorkshire County Council and City of York.

Taking a ‘whole family’ approach to working with children and young people, the service can offer a range of support, including 1:1 and group sessions provided directly to children, young people and their parents or guardians. IDAS will also work with partner agencies to provide toolkits and resources to support their work.

Work with children and young people will commence within the City of York in July 2021, with groups for children and young people and their parents being delivered from September 2021. Following a period of development, the service for children and young people will roll out to North Yorkshire from April 2022.

In addition to the support available for families, IDAS will also deliver bitesize training from September 2021 and a rapid research project to develop the service with evidence based interventions and frameworks for achieving a multi-agency, whole family approach to deliver the best outcomes for families.
