RESCHEDULED DATE
Domestic abuse affects people of all sexual orientations and gender identities, but LGBT+ victims often remain hidden, overlooked, or misunderstood by services that may not have been built with them in mind.
This essential half-day course will equip you with the tools, language, and confidence to offer safe, inclusive, and informed support to LGBT+ clients. You will explore the dynamics of domestic abuse and coercive control through an LGBT+ lens, understand how identity can create unique barriers to disclosure and safety, and learn how to recognise abuse in relationships that may not ‘look’ typical.
Through interactive discussion and real-life examples, you’ll build your understanding of gender, sexuality, and power, and walk away with practical strategies for signposting, referral, and inclusive safeguarding.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Recognise the signs of domestic abuse and coercive control within LGBT+ relationships
- Understand key terminology around sexual orientation, gender identity, and inclusive practice
- Identify the unique challenges LGBT+ victims face, including barriers to seeking help
- Respond with cultural humility and confidence in supporting LGBT+ individuals
- Access appropriate referral pathways and specialist local and national services
This course challenges assumptions, fills knowledge gaps, and empowers professionals to be part of a safer, more inclusive response to domestic abuse.
